Membership Renewal Form

For 15 years, we have been the leading global network of green hospitals, and now is the time to take this legacy to the next level. Over a decade and a half, we have proven that implementing sustainable practices within the healthcare sector is possible, thanks to your hard work and commitment.

We introduce GGHH+, the renewed Global Green and Healthy Hospitals network experience: the same global community of healthcare institutions working toward sustainable, climate-resilient care. With a clearer roadmap for how members commit, act, and grow, it offers every member —from large health systems to small rural clinics—, a path to reduce their climate footprint, adapt to climate impacts, become more sustainable, and lead the transformation of the healthcare sector.

We want you to remain part of this new chapter; your experience, knowledge, learnings, and practices are the key to confronting the environmental crisis.

Let’s Commit + Transform, together.

Is your institution already a GGHH member? Use this link to verify if your institution is already part of the GGHH network.

Step 4 of 6

GGHH: From Commitment to Action

To protect health in a changing world, there is an urgent need for a healthcare agenda that addresses the climate crisis and plastics crisis together. This means building health systems that can adapt and respond to shocks and stresses while reducing emissions, eliminating unnecessary plastics, improving efficiencies, and forging a path toward climate-resilient, sustainable, and low-plastic healthcare.

By joining GGHH, institutions move beyond intention and into action translating these priorities into concrete, achievable steps in real healthcare settings.

Climate Resilience

From fires to flooding and extreme heat, communities around the world are facing the effects of fossil-fuel driven climate change. As climate shocks increase and intensify, so too do the pressures on the health care systems we depend upon. To protect people from the impacts of climate change, there is an urgent need to strengthen the climate resilience of health systems around the globe. This means building health systems that can adapt and respond to shocks and stresses, while also reducing emissions and forging a path towards net zero health care.

Plastics Reduction

Plastic pollution is everywhere: in our air, soil, water and even in our bodies. Plastics harm human health from production to disposal: from the generation of greenhouse gas emissions to the release of toxic chemicals and microplastics linked to serious health risks, including cancer and infertility.

More than an environmental issue, plastic pollution is a growing threat to public health, with vulnerable communities facing the greatest burden.

With 99% of plastics made from fossil fuels, tackling plastic use is essential to protect communities from the health impacts of climate change and air pollution.

By joining GGHH, institutions move beyond intention and into action translating these priorities into concrete, achievable steps in real healthcare settings

The Action Journey

Joining GGHH means becoming part of a global movement of health institutions taking action on climate and sustainability. To support you in that journey, GGHH presents a shared structure called the Action Journey. It has three stages: getting started by assessing where you are and setting goals; moving forward by putting a plan into action; and leading the way by refining your approach and raising your ambition.

While it appears as an individual path, it is actually part of a global collective movement working together toward the same goal: a sustainable, climate resilient healthcare sector.

You don't need to have everything figured out to join, wherever you are right now is a valuable contribution to our shared mission.

Assess & Target → Plan & Execute → Monitor, Adjust & Elevate

What you'll get

By joining GGHH you’ll get:

  • Recognition for your efforts and achievements
  • Targeted guidance, learning opportunities, and peer exchange, based on your interests and priorities.
  • Opportunities to showcase your work, including case studies, events, awards, and network communications.
  • Access to reporting forms and tools to help compile, structure, and share your data.
  • Dashboards and visualizations

Step 4 of 6

Health Care Climate Challenge

An initiative of Health Care Without Harm, the Health Care Climate Challenge (HCCC) is the main way institutions engage with GGHH under the Framework 2.0.

The HCCC has been bringing together a global coalition of health care institutions committed to the sector’s transformation since 2015. As part of the new GGHH Framework 2.0, the Challenge is also evolving to become the primary pathway through which institutions engage with GGHH, translate commitment into action, and demonstrate progress over time.

Action Areas

Institutions can build climate resilience and reduce plastics through a range of practical actions. To support this, HCWH introduces four Action Areas that serve as clear, hands-on pathways for progress: Infrastructure, Natural Resources, Procurement, and Waste.

We invite you to select the Action Area(s) you are most interested in, to tailor the guidance, tools, and support you receive, designed to help institutions move beyond commitment and into meaningful, real-world action and tangible progress.

In future cycles, you’ll have the opportunity to change or expand to other areas. Regardless of what you choose, you will have access to GGHH’s entire library of resources, tools, and support.

Agreement

What your institution is agreeing to

By joining GGHH and the Health care Climate Challenge,  your institution agrees to:

The submitted data will be kept confidential by Health Care Without Harm unless your institution grants permission otherwise. Health Care Without Harm will share anonymized and aggregated information related to your targets and annual progress on the UNFCCC data portal.

Step 5 of 6

Plastics Reduction Challenge

The Plastics Reduction Challenge supports healthcare institutions in reducing avoidable and problematic plastics use, transitioning to safer and more sustainable alternatives, and strengthening systems that prevent plastic waste and pollution across health care operations.

Through this initiative, members are invited to:

  • identify their starting point,
  • select an Action Area aligned with their priorities,
  • receive practical guidance and resources,
  • share, track and visualize progress, and receive recognition for the progress achieved.
